How to Make Cheeseburger Egg Rolls
This recipe yields one dozen egg rolls with 1-1/2 cups of dipping sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped dill pickles
- 4 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 14 egg roll wrappers
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Oil for deep-fat frying
Dipping Sauce:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Directions
Step 1: Brown the beef
In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the beef with the onions and garlic until it is no longer pink and the onions are tender—about 4 to 5 minutes. Drain the beef and onion mixture to remove any excess fat. Draining the fat will ensure the egg rolls cook up crispy and don’t become soggy once they cool. Return to the skillet.
Step 2: Add mix-ins
Stir in the shredded cheese, pickles, crumbled bacon, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper. Then remove the skillet from the heat.
Editor’s Tip: While this recipe sticks closely to the original cheesecake factory recipe, don’t be afraid to customize the filling with other burger toppings you enjoy. Diced sauteed mushrooms and Swiss with crumbled bacon would be divine, or try a spicy burger twist with salsa, pepper jack and diced avocado.
Step 3: Fill
With one corner of an egg roll wrapper facing you, place about a third-cup of filling just below the center of the wrapper. Make sure to cover the remaining wrappers with a damp paper towel until ready to use, so they don’t dry out.
Step 4: Fold and roll
Fold the bottom corner of the wonton wrapper over the filling (as you would for these wonton mozzarella sticks). Then, moisten the remaining wrapper edges with a beaten egg before folding the side corners in toward the center over the filling. To finish, roll up tightly and press the end to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Step 5: Fry
In a deep skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 375°F. Fry egg rolls, a few at a time, until golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes, occasionally turning to cook evenly on all sides. Remove to drain on paper towels. Repeat. (Don’t miss these top tips, so you can deep-fry with confidence.)
You can keep the egg rolls warm before serving by transferring them to a wire rack positioned over a baking sheet and placing them in a warm oven.
Step 6: Make it saucy
In a small bowl, combine the dip recipe ingredients and stir to combine. Serve beside warm egg rolls. Enjoy!
