Fruit Roll-Ups and Ice Cream Is the Latest Viral Craze and, Wait for It, It’s Actually Pretty Good

If you want a sweet, creamy, crunchy snack that will make you feel like a kid again, you have to try the latest guilty pleasure that’s gone viral on social media. People all over the internet are rolling ice cream into Fruit Roll-Up candies and enjoying them. That’s right. Fruit Roll-Ups and ice cream is probably the most famous sweet snack in the world right now.

“Can I say that I have not been able to escape this trend for a week now?” said TikTok creator Sydney Wingold in her video about fruit roll-ups and ice cream that garnered more than 6 million views. The hashtag #icecreamfruitrollup has more than 6o million views. The trend has even gone internationally, with French TikTok creator Eva Guess who tested the “combo americain” (with more than a million views) and gave it a thumbs up.

How Do You Make Fruit Roll-Ups and Ice Cream?

Ice Cream Fruit Roll Ups Overhead Jason Wilson For Taste Of Home

As with a lot of TikTok trends, there’s not really what you would call a “recipe.” You unwrap a Fruit Roll-Up and lie it flat on a plate. You spoon some ice cream down the middle of the roll-up and then roll it together like a burrito. As you do, the fruit roll-up quickly freezes and becomes crunchy. That crunchy texture and creamy ice cream is the secret that makes this combination so irresistible.

I Tried It—Here’s What I Thought

So, does this wacky combination actually taste good? In a word, yes. But beware that you may have to experiment with the various flavor combinations to find what tastes best to you. I bought a pack of Fruit Roll-Ups that came in three flavors: Strawberry Sensation, Tropical Tie-Dye and Blue Raspberry. With those flavors, I tried two of my favorite ice creams, Häagen-Dazs dulce de leche and Ben and Jerry’s classic flavor Cherry Garcia. As far as combinations go, there were clear winners.

First of all, I didn’t love the Blue Raspberry Fruit Roll-ups in any combination. The “blue” flavor just took over. So I would steer toward the Strawberry Sensation and multi-color Tropical Tie-Dye. I loved the Strawberry Sensation roll-up with the Cherry Garcia ice cream—it was definitely my favorite. A close runner-up would be the Tropical Tie-Dye roll-up with the dulce de leche ice cream. But don’t just take my word for it—experiment with flavors you like!

Overall, I would say this crazy trend, of which I was very skeptical, is actually pretty tasty.
