I Made 3-Ingredient Sugar Cookies and the Recipe Is Impossible to Forget

When the craving for cookies strikes, making classics like chocolate chip or snickerdoodles are always a great go-to. But what if you want something quick, easy and completely fuss-free? The answer is 3-ingredient sugar cookies.

Can you believe you can make delicious sugar cookies with just three ingredients that you probably already have at home? It’s absolutely possible! To make things even better, once the dough is ready, it can easily be customized to add rainbow sprinkles, holiday sprinkles or anything else you’d like to dress them up with.

How to Make 3-Ingredient Sugar Cookies

Ingredients For 3 Ingredient Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups flour

Editor’s Tip: Add sprinkles for a pop of color.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Mixing Bowl: A wide bowl will help you to mix the sugar cookie dough with ease.
  • Hand Mixer: Use a hand mixer to cream the butter and sugar, mixing it until fluffy along the way.
  • Spatula: Grab a sturdy, flexible spatula like this to scrape down the mixing bowl.

Directions

Step 1: Cream the butter and sugar

Preheat the oven to 325°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or grease it with cooking spray.

In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy and well combined.

Step 2: Add the flour

Mix in all of the flour until the mixture is crumbly. Use your hands to finish mixing and bring together the dough.

Step 3: Scoop and bake

Use a cookie dough scoop to divide the dough into small balls. Gently roll the dough for each cookie, and slightly flatten it in your hands. If you plan to use sprinkles, pour them into a shallow bowl and dip one side of the cookies in the sprinkles.

Place the discs of dough on the prepared cookie sheet spaced evenly apart, as these cookies do spread while baking. Bake the cookies for 14 minutes until lightly golden brown. Once the cookies are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to begin cooling on the stovetop for five minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Here’s What I Thought

It’s hard to imagine baking delicious cookies with just a matter of three ingredients, but this recipe proves it can be done. There’s no need to think about whether you have enough eggs on hand or other ingredients. Truly, all you’ll need to pull this off is butter, flour and sugar. And even better? You can customize the recipe with additional ingredients if you’d like! Consider adding vanilla extract, almond extract or even peppermint extract to the mix. Or, add in your favorite sprinkles or even mini chocolate chips.

The trick is to be sure you’re bringing the dough all together after the flour is added. It certainly will be crumbly, but working it with your hands will make all the difference. Once the cookies are baked and cooled, you’ll end up with a flavorful treat with great texture. It’s a sugar cookie on the harder side around the edges, similar to a shortbread cookie. Once you take a bite, you’ll find a soft center and the whole cookie absolutely melts in your mouth. It’s hard to believe they can come together with such simple ingredients and in such a small amount of time. But with how easy these sugar cookies are to make, they might just become my new favorite go-to for any season.
