  • 2 cans (20 ounces each) crushed pineapple, undrained
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup chopped crystallized ginger, optional
  • 1 package yellow cake mix (regular size)
  • 1/2 cup butter, frozen and shredded
  • Vanilla ice cream, optional

Directions

Step 1: Prep

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Gather the ingredients and grease your 13×9-in. baking dish. Shred the frozen butter stick now, so that you can simply sprinkle the butter on top of the cake a few minutes later.

Step 2: Pour in the pineapple

Pour the canned pineapple, with the juice, into the greased baking dish.

Step 3: Sprinkle the brown sugar

Evenly spread the brown sugar on top of the pineapple. If you want to include it, now would be the time to add the crystallized ginger.

Step 4: Add the cake mix

Step 5: Add the butter on top

Spread the frozen, shredded butter evenly over the cake mix.

Step 6: Bake the pineapple dump cake

Bake until the top of the dump cake is golden brown, about 40-45 minutes. Cool slightly on a wire rack.

Step 7: Serve
