How to Cook Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp
This recipe from our Taste of Home Test Kitchen makes 1-1/2 dozen shrimp, or 18 servings.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 18 uncooked shrimp (16-20 per pound), peeled and deveined, tails on
- 9 bacon strips, halved lengthwise
Directions
Step 1: Make marinade
In a small bowl, mix together the sugar, lemon juice, olive oil and seasonings. Pour 1/4 cup of marinade into a shallow bowl. Cover the bowl and then refrigerate the leftover marinade for basting.
Step 2: Prepare shrimp
Add shrimp to marinade, toss so each shrimp is coated and let sit in marinade for 15 minutes. Drain shrimp and discard marinade.
Editor’s Tip: Forgot to buy already peeled and deveined shrimp? Don’t worry, because we have a guide that walks you through how to clean shrimp yourself.
Step 3: Wrap shrimp with bacon
Take one piece of halved bacon and wrap it evenly around shrimp, avoiding the tail. Secure bacon with a toothpick.
Editor’s Tip: Pre-soak toothpicks for 30 minutes so they don’t start on fire while in the broiler.
Step 4: Broil bacon-wrapped shrimp
Place shrimp on a greased broiler pan rack. Broil shrimp four inches away from heat source until shrimp turn pink, about three to four minutes on each side. Baste shrimp frequently with marinade after turning.
